Mabel was always telling Bob what to do and he did it. Really. She would chew on a wire or a root, then go to talk to Bob, then he would go look at it. Then he would go back to her or she would join him. I observed it many times.

In 2005 I had the lovely experience of raising three pet geese for two months. I've had pet cats and dogs, rabbits and rats, parakeets and lizards, but this was the most fun I've ever had with animals.

justsusan > We purchased three goslings two weeks ago with the idea of releasing them at the Placerville property to eat the weeds. Aren't they cute?
When they are hatched, they are marked on their heads with a red spot (female) or blue spot (male).

I named the adventurous smart one Mabel. She's plain, but she found the food first and ate weeds first. The pretty female is Lucy who still can't find her way out of the cage, and the male is Bob.

justsusan > We had to take them home, of course, to raise and nurture them. Mike made a nice big cage which just fits in the back of the Envoy.

Here they are one week later at least twice as big. They follow me everywhere in the yard peeping and cooing, but squak loudly when they can't see me.
Mabel, Lucy and Bob keep us entertained all day and just are the most fun.
But they keep growing, keep eating and you know what that means-- I have to hose off the deck several times a day.

Mike's sister, Homa, is staying with us now and she is my "babysitter" on weekdays. She has also become attached to our three little darlings.
Mabel is in front. Lucy is flashing her left leg and Bob sits contentedly in the background. He's a little smaller than the females.
