justsusan > This gigantic statue of Christ stands atop Corcovado and overlooks the city of Rio de Janeiro. The design was conceived in 1923 while the Armstrongs were still there, but it wasn't built for many years after that, due to financial problems. Mom was extremely pleased to be able to go to the top of the mountain and see it for herself in 1960. We could see it from our hotel room.
